There are some very exciting aspects of the technology demonstration. I think it is a fact that you see a possible situation. The Matrix Awakens technology demonstration is built using Unreal Engine 5 and is only available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, providing a window into the future. Considering that the life cycle of these new consoles has been more than a year, it may be strange to say, but apart from a few games, few games show the true meaning of the next generation of games to this generation of games.
Unreal Engine 5 was very impressive before. Of course, a demo showed the possibility on PS5. Turned around a year ago, but the difference between The Matrix Awakens is that you (it is now in the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store) can be played anyway, this is not a complete game, but there is a shooting sequence on the track, from the back seat of a speeding car, and then a city where you can walk, fly or drive.
When playing games on Xbox Series X, from a face-to-face spectacle point of view, the initial orbital shot banging sequence is the most visually impressive, when you shoot the tires, the car will explode and spin uncontrollably. The gameplay here is quite limited, but the whole thing has a clear "ok, wow, this is cool" feel.
After this, you will get some technical examples, but then you will get a city that you can walk around, fly over, or drive into. At first, I was not surprised by this. Nowadays, beautifully rendered city streets are very common in video games. The feeling of "wow" disappeared, at least for a moment.
The controls listed on the side of the screen suggest that I press the Y key to fly. I flew, flew into the air, and the city was revealed below, in the extraordinary glory of the next generation. There is no feeling of quality degradation at close range. This is a perfectly implemented virtual world without any obvious pop-up windows.
After returning to the ground, I activated the photo mode and began to appreciate the quality of the city even more. This is the closest game I have seen in a playable video game-if you turn off the Matrix filter, the effect may be better. Night lighting is a highlight, but when you take a moment to concentrate, the whole thing will be impressive.
The most exciting thing about all of this is that this is not a demo that doesn't consider the impact of adding appropriate game elements. In an excellent technical article on FX Guide, it is said that there are still a lot of CPU resources to handle game mechanics, so the visual effects we see here are indeed possible in a complete game.
