Innova: No more cheating on accuracy

Accuracy is a key factor in parking management, especially when we implement barrier-free or ticket-free solutions. In the ALPR market, different technical solutions guarantee a high ratio when it comes to accuracy and efficiency. How is this indicator calculated? How does the manufacturer measure the accuracy of the ALPR system? Simple: LPR manufacturers usually keep their statistics, discard images of damaged license plates, and only provide the accuracy of good license plates. But at Innova, we can guarantee an accuracy rate of over 99% without discarding any images in the analysis process... and we can guarantee it in the actual installation.

At Innova, we have been working hard to solve the problem of accuracy calculation from the beginning. Thanks to OCR5's deep learning technology and its ability to process color images with white light, we finally achieved success. With Innova's technology, license plate defects will not become an issue of efficiency and profitability. Our solution guarantees maximum readability of all types of license plates, regardless of their condition, entry/exit angle or lighting. The use of color and ALPR solutions based on deep learning algorithms can increase the success rate without doubling the installation cost, because the use of a single camera can maximize the success rate.

In order to obtain real information about our technology and accuracy, we and S&B Iberica conducted this test at an important German discount retail chain with more than 12,000 stores worldwide. After 3 days of analyzing more than 4000 images, the result obtained is 99.3% accuracy. Together with this evaluation, we did not discard any pictures due to any damage to the license plate, which allows us to evaluate the actual performance of parking as realistically as possible without gaps.

This 99.3% accuracy rate breaks the trend of infrared light work with bandpass filters to focus very much on the infrared spectrum. Many LPR manufacturers adhere to this old-fashioned trend because they use old neural network algorithms and greatly reduce the time it takes to find license plates on the images through very high-contrast images. But the problem of focusing on infrared spectroscopy is that the character recognition algorithm is very sensitive to the damage of the reflective emulsion of the printing plate.

With the development of OCR5 (the first LPR solution based on deep learning), we found that the most advanced deep learning algorithm takes the same time to search for license plates in high-contrast images as in images with more objects in the visible spectrum give up. This is why we started to work without any infrared filter in the camera in 2014, and launched the new Siram Compact Hybrid in 2021, which can be used in the infrared spectrum without any filter. The white light projector works in the visible spectrum of the color camera.

Regarding the tests conducted, thanks to Scheidt & Bachmann Iberica, we can guarantee excellent results: 99.3% accuracy without discarding any damaged license plate images. Are you willing to risk the profitability of parking at a fraud rate? Are you looking for a technical solution to trust the correct function of the ticketless and barrier-free system? Does your parking lot need higher accuracy?
