As our fourth or fifth date, my current boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Hampton. I booked a small room in the bay, bought a new bikini, and rode a bicycle from a friend to trek around the island. My menstrual period does not start until after Monday, but because the new bikini is white and Mother Nature likes to make a joke, it came the previous Thursday.

We have started to sleep together, but this is still a new relationship, and I don't want to mess with him yet. I am also determined to make this a romantic beach resort, so not having sex is not my choice.

Cut to my crazy Google search "how to stop your period/postpone your period/pause your period..." and so on, ending with the only safe and easily available solution on the Internet: menstrual discs.

You may have heard the hum, but just in case, the menstrual disc is a (surprisingly large) polymer ring with a transparent basket wedged behind your pubic bone, making your blood dam invisible To the day of light.

Its appeal is similar to a menstrual cup: you only need to change it every 12 hours at most, and since it does not absorb blood, it only needs to collect blood, so there is no risk of toxic shock syndrome. The difference between a disc and a cup is that they are 1.) Unfortunately, they are not reusable, and 2.) They can be worn during sex.

I picked up a box of two brands I could find on the shelf: FLEX and Softdisc.

It turns out that FLEX acquired Softdisc, and the only real difference between the two is that they call it ComfortSeal™ technology. This allows the ring of the FLEX disc to heat up and adapt to the unique shape of your cervix, while the Softdisc maintains the standard ring shape. I ended up using the two interchangeably and didn't notice the huge difference, but I have a beautiful textbook on the cervix. Maybe start with floppy disks (they are slightly cheaper), if you find any leaks, please skip to FLEX.

That afternoon, I inserted the CD and tried it while pacing around my apartment. Once placed correctly, it is not obvious at all, but I can't help but feel distrustful.

I went to the bathroom many times to check the condition of my underwear, but every time it was unharmed. As far as clogging is concerned, it has officially passed the tampon equivalence test, but I haven't put it in a real game yet. Will he feel it? Will it pop up? Should I explain my inner mechanism before he comes in?

We met in my apartment before going on the road and didn't waste too much time to get close.

Immediately, there was a problem with my concentration. I didn't have a chance to explain the experiment we were about to begin, and these words did not surface at all. I didn't have to break my face until he stopped far enough.

My boyfriend may feel the need to manipulate because of the angle he enters and the angle where the disc is. This is why it is more obvious in some locations than others. However, I cannot emphasize enough: although it may move, it is difficult to make it pop out without intentionally pulling the ring.

In fact, for me at least, it feels safer when you enter it and tighten there. Not to mention, because it rubs you when it is nudged, it adds another layer of feel to the blend. Although recognized as subtle, it is amplified by the increased sensitivity during menstruation.

To be honest, I am just more comfortable knowing that my sheets/upholstery will remain flawless, which helps me focus on my sexual pleasure. I know that the ritual of putting down the towel is completely normal, but personally, it does not make me feel super sexy.

If your partner eventually feels distracted, try different positions. It will vary based on your unique anatomy, but Flex Company’s official recommendations are missionary and doggie, and I agree that this is a very safe bet.

No clutter, (mostly) uninterrupted, and slightly more intense. But also, expensive. If you can't overcome chaos mentally like me, it's worth paying for this experience. But only 8 discs for $13, please stick to your current solo method and archive the discs for occasions only.
