The first new Range Rover model in 10 years has an evolved appearance, four-wheel steering system and up to 7 seats, just like its BMW X7, Mercedes GLS class, Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator competition The same as the opponent.

Update on October 27, 21: A Land Rover representative confirmed to the car and driver that the 4.4-liter V-8 engine came from BMW, and stated that “Jaguar Land Rover has expanded its ongoing powertrain cooperation with the BMW Group to jointly develop the country’s most advanced V-8 gasoline engine."

"Range Rover is not making a radical change for it," said Gerry McGovern, chief creative officer of Jaguar Land Rover. Although the new Range Rover is once in ten years (significantly longer than the typical product cycle), the new 2022 Range Rover does look familiar. But the new Rover contains many innovations. Starting from the first three-row version of the model, it finally put it on an equal footing with competitors such as the Mercedes-Benz GLS-class, BMW X7, Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator. The seven-seater Range Rover uses a long-wheelbase body style and is expected to be particularly popular in the US market. Land Rover told us that a quarter of its existing customers have asked for such a vehicle.

The wheelbase of both versions has increased by approximately 3 inches, the standard wheelbase is now 118 inches, and the total length is 199 inches, while the long wheelbase version has increased by 8 inches in both areas. The wheels are as large as 23 inches. McGovern described the design of the new Range Rover as "clean, simple and without excessive line work." As before, the section view has a slowly descending roof line, a continuous waist line, and an ascending threshold line. Compared with the previous version, McGovern said that the new version "is about taking out, not adding."

To this end, the mold at the bottom of the window has been removed, the door handle is flush-mounted, and there is flush glass. Before being lit, the taillights appear as simple black vertical elements. These flush elements, as well as the new vertical creases at the rear corners, active aerodynamic elements, and the suspension that automatically lowers on the highway give the Range Rover a drag coefficient of 0.30, an increase of 12%.

Land Rover Range Rover claims to have broken the limit in luxury finishes. The SV trim (launched with the 2023 model) uses ceramic knobs and switchgear (white or anthracite), wool blend interior and inlaid wood veneer. Mosaic pattern. SV offers two design themes: Serenity, with a copper-colored roof and matching decorations around the wheels and grille; or Intrepid, with black trim and anthracite gray as the main color.

The new Range Rover interior is equipped with a 13.1-inch central touch screen, running JLR's Pivi Pro operating system, which adds tactile feedback, including Amazon Alexa integration and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In front of the driver is a new 13.7-inch digital instrument cluster with a configurable display. Autobiography and First Edition's unique 1600 watt Meridian sound system includes active noise reduction and 35 speakers (included in the headrest). Perhaps the ultimate luxury: the optional cabin air purification system can filter SARS and Covid pathogens. Next year, the optional new power assist door will make it easier to get in and out of the Range Rover, and it can also be controlled via a touch screen.

We wandered around in three pre-production Range Rover Range Rover: the first version of the standard wheelbase, the extended wheelbase SV with four-seater interior, and the seven-seater. In the seven seats, both rear rows are electrically foldable. The third row is really usable, has 34 inches of legroom, and is fairly easy to enter. It also avoids the feel of the cockpit due to its padded armrests, USB ports, air conditioning vents and seat heaters.

At the same time, the four-seater SV has a full-length center console from which a table can be turned to serve the rear seat passengers and their own 8-inch touch screen. Its executive-level rear seats include extendable leg rests. The available rear seat entertainment system has dual 11.4-inch screens and a refrigerated refrigerator between the rear seat backrests.

Moving to the rear of the Range Rover, the model again has an upper lift door and a drop-down tailgate. For the latter, there is a newly launched Tailgate Event Suite: a pop-up two-person seat with leather pads-just something to watch a polo game or tailgate before the Harvard-Yale game. This option includes additional lighting and speakers in the back door, which can play music from a smartphone.

Under all the gorgeous decorations, the new Rover debuted the brand's MLA-Flex architecture, which is said to be made of 76% aluminum. The torsional stiffness is increased by 50%. Powertrain options include an inline six-cylinder engine and a turbocharged V-8. It also promises to provide electric vehicles, but they will not arrive until 2024.

The familiar turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine and 48-volt hybrid auxiliary power return as the basic engine of the SE. It provides 395 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque.

The optional configuration of the SE and the standard configuration of the Autobiography and First Edition is the new 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8, which can produce 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. With it, the new Rover accelerates to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds estimated by the factory.

A few months later, a 2023 plug-in hybrid six-cylinder engine arrived, producing 434 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Its 38.2 kWh battery (usable capacity 31.8 kWh) gives it an estimated EV range of 62 miles. The 105kW electric motor integrated in the gearbox is powerful enough to propel the Range Rover at speeds of up to 87 mph.

All-wheel drive is standard, and the front axle can now be disconnected. Land Rover Range Rover uses Land Rover’s Clearsight front-facing camera system, which can stitch front-view images together, just like seeing through the car body. The default ground clearance is 11.6 inches, and the maximum lift provided by the air suspension is 5.7 inches. The rover can wade through nearly three feet of standing water. Like Defender, there are six off-road driving modes.

The main innovation of the chassis is the addition of four-wheel steering, which is standard. The rear wheels can turn up to 7 degrees, reducing the turning circle to 36 feet. The air suspension is used again, but a new dual-valve damper is obtained, which can adjust rebound and compression separately. Range Rover also added a 48-volt electronic anti-roll bar.

The 2022 Range Rover is available for order now, and delivery will begin in the spring of 2022. The plug-in hybrid power system is expected to be on the market in three months. The SE starts at $105,350, and the Autobiography starts at $153,350. The first version is currently the most expensive, with the standard wheelbase version at $159,550 and the long wheelbase version at $164,850. When SV arrives, it will be more expensive and sit at the top of the lineup.
